Also, beim Thema Fahrräder ist es ja wie bei guten Serien – irgendwas ist immer. Dieses Mal war's die Schraube vom Vorderrad, die sich so fest in ihr Schicksal verschraubt hatte, dass kein Bewegen und kein Flehen half. Das Ding war verdrehter als die Handlung von "Game of Thrones". Nun, ob es an einem Montagsmodell lag oder an meinem berüchtigten Pech mit allem, was Werkzeug erfordert, sei dahingestellt. Aber haltet die Spanner, äh, Spaten! Die Ritter in glänzender Montur von Cowboy kamen dahergeritten – virtuell natürlich – und haben sich der Sache angenommen. Zack, waren Ersatzteile und Werkstatttermin organisiert, und das alles für die dicke Summe von genau null Euro. Tja, ich hatte ja nicht mal dieses fancy Repair-Abo, aber anscheinend macht Cowboy das wie die gute Fee – einfach so aus Nettigkeit. Und jetzt das Beste: Trotz des kleinen Schrauben-Dramas liebe ich dieses Fahrrad mehr als Pizza am Freitagabend. Klar, es gibt Hersteller da draußen, die sind so alt wie die Pyramiden und kosten auch fast so viel. Aber seien wir ehrlich, ich brauche auch ein Bike, das aussieht, als könnte es Instagram-Influencer werden, sonst tret ich keinen Meter. Kurzum: Super happy mit meinem Cowboy-Gefährt. Yeehaw! 🤠
I'll sum up my previous reviews first: I submitted an order on 1 September for a Cowboy Classic Performance in black, following a great test ride in late-August. Despite some relatively major issues with delivery and non-consistent information - but probably not entirely due to Cowboy's fault - the bike arrived on 31 October. Onto the bike: this bike is a real machine. My primary use has been to commute to work and back - about 6 miles (10km). It comprises of a few steep-ish hills and somewhat bumpy park pathways. Speaking of bumpy roads, for the first few rides, your bike will be somewhat uncomfortable. Simply because the seat takes some time adjusting to - luckily it's not a proprietary part and you can get it changed to pretty much any other seat. Reading the tech specifications, you might think that the motor might be a tad on the weaker side. And, you're right - it won't be a VanMoof where you press a button and you effectively fly off. You'll still need to pedal to get moving and turn the sensor on, but the motor will still do 60% of the work for you. That being said, the motor does seem to work well in hills. I haven't had the need to stand up on my bike on a hill yet, although, I also haven't encountered a hill so steep that I had doubts it would ever make it. Overall, it just feels like someone is constantly giving you a bit of a push. Oh, and the acceleration is great too! Continuing with the motor, you can choose between three modes: adaptive, eco, and off. I can't tell the difference between adaptive and eco, the bike still maintains the same speed of 15.5 mph (26 km/h), eco mode just seems to turn off the wireless charger on the phone but apparently it does help with the battery life. In my past reviews, I complained about the lights on the bike and how they're ineffective considering the brightness. While I still agree with those words, now that the nights are getting longer, I do feel safer having them on. While the front light doesn't light up the road, it does at least provide me with some assurance that everyone around me sees me relatively well. One thing of note about the bike, it gets dirty fast. Riding in the rain will almost certainly make your bike muddy, especially if in a black colour. I also locked my bike around the top tube with a LITELOK lock that has rubber-type material as the outer layer, and some paint scratched off, meaning the paint wasn't very resistent in the first place, so that hasn't been entirely ideal. I haven't been able to fix it since the touch-up paint isn't in stock. The Cowboy app is decent too, and I really enjoy the little tips you get in the first week regarding maintaining the bike. The only thing that's slightly annoying is Google Maps, which is somewhat inaccurate in my experience - trying to send me down tiny canal paths which are also well-known for flooding when locks are raised. I think they should consider implementing a Komoot-style map where you can create your own route. Overall, a fantastic bike with just some minor problems with the paint, and some relatively major problems regarding the delivery. But if anything, I really look forward to my next commute with it.
